Off Color: Andrea Chung, Nekisha Durrett

Andrea Chung's work inthe Off Color I exhibit at Rush Arts Gallery

Last night I attended the opening reception of "Off Color I", curated by Hank and his cousin Kalia Brooks, and I discovered the work of Andrea Chung. Her collages/montages really spoke to me. Formally I felt that she is on the forefront of the revival of photo montage. I have been exploring collage & illustration this year and looking at many artists using that technique, and find Andrea's work the most compelling and well executed.
Also part of this exhibit at Rush Arts Gallery is a great illustration art work by the talented & wonderful Nekisha Durrett.

"Off Color II" , the second installment of this show, opens tomorrow in Brooklyn at Corridor Gallery Brooklyn Project Space.

Not Good Bedtime Reading

Well, there goes going to bed early and being Zen.
I just read the September 18, 2008 Op-Ed piece by Hillary Clinton and Cecile Richards titled "Blocking Care for Women". Like it is not hard enough to get good health care.

Lisa M. Robinson by Jane Tam

Please head over to the Nymphoto blog for Jane's conversation with Lisa M. Robinson -- who I blogged about previously and who I had the pleasure of meeting at last night's Photo Women Meet Up (along with a lot of other outstanding women artists).
Lisa is a native of gorgeous and always-great-to-visit Savannah and the author of this year's award winning "Snowbound" - an immensely beautiful & spiritual monogram of her winter landscapes. A favorite photo book of mine.

Photo Women Bonanza

Lots going on these days, so I haven't had much time for blogging unfortunately or anything else fun for that matter.
However one thing I am looking forward to & that will give me reprieve is tonight's Photo Women Meet-Up.
We have an outstanding group of women artists meeting tonight and I think it will be a great evening of getting to know new people, exchanging ideas and advancing 'the cause' .
PS: And I hope it will make up for the Aperture event I had to miss :(

Waiting for Fey

I'm not big on TV, but there are some people on TV I am very fond of like Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin (Director of TV and Microwave Programming?!). Tina Fey was back on SNL last night as Sarah Palin, you can catch a clip from the show at www.huffingtonpost.com.
