from I AM BECAUSE WE ARE, photographs by Kristen Ashburn, published by powerHouse Books
Fellow NYU Alumni Kristen Ashburn's Book "I AM BECAUSE WE ARE" launches today. The book is a companion piece to the documentary film by the same title by Madonna & Nathan Rissman.
I have always admired Kristen's strength and dedication to her work. I have seen a press-preview of the book and it confirms what an outstanding photographer Kristen is. The book not only shows work commissioned for the film but also shows Kristen's previous efforts in documenting & raising awareness of the AIDS crisis in Africa.
You can find out more about the book (the exhibit & the movie & the cause) by visiting: www.powerhousebooks.com or www.iambecauseweare.com.

Conceit © Ryan McLennan
Ryan McLennan's new website is up - with lots of new work. Find it at www.ryanmclennan.com.
While in Boston I met artist Isabelle Abramson, who makes beautiful pottery. Check out some of her work at: www.isabelleabramson.com.
And I am really enjoying reading "Annie Leibovitz At Work". It is reminding me how much of a photographer I am.

Our house is strangely quiet now, as our friends Emma & Jonathan returned to London this morning. Jonathan is a documentary photographer and he was recently saying that what is so incredible about being a photographer is the moments one gets to share with people and how one gets to bare witness to extraordinary moments. I think he is right.
To see a sample of Jonathan's work, head over to his website: www.jpfoto.com. You'll find some amazing - and sometimes devastating- imagery.

India on my mind
We just returned from Boston, where we had a fun filled weekend celebrating our friends' wedding.
On the way back to New York we listened to some beautiful Indian music.
At home in the mail we found an invitation for another wedding waiting for us - that of Indian family friends.
