Our -MyRudi © Nina Buesing Corvallo

If you are thinking about getting a dog or cat, or even a rabbit or a bird, please consider taking in a shelter animal.
Organizations such as KittyKind make it easy for you to find a good fit.
After one of our cats passed at the age of 17. I thought that I might be done. But that did not last long. Animals bring me too much joy and there are just so many animals that need a home.
We looked on Craig's list, Petfinder.com and stopped by KittyKind several times. Craig's list was mostly disheartening. There were lots of scams and people making a business out of re-homing animals. Yes, there were some good people advertising on Craig's list too, but few and far in between.

We adopted our two remaining senior cats over 18 years ago from a loving family. I saw a note on a bulletin board at school, we went up to the Bronx and took the two kittens home on the 6 train. It worked out beautifully.

We hoped to recreate that experience. However with two now 18 year old cats at home, we decided that it was better to go through KittyKind. Mainly because they pre-screen cats for communicable diseases and because they offer fostering before adoption.

After much thinking, looking and holding, we brought home a mellow 12 week old silver tabby polydactyl wonder that we named Rudi. He was the last one from his litter in need of a home.
Rudi chose us as much as we chose him.The first time I held him he gave me a headbutt and chewed on my braid. He took to me as much as I did to him. And he integrated well with our older cats. That sealed the deal.
However I am still haunted by all the other cats that we did not adopt. I can still see their cute faces. They certainly are all deserving of more than living in a cage. It breaks my heart.

So please if you have a room for an animal in your life, visit your local shelter or rescue organization first. Maybe you will fall in love. I know it is not for everyone, but just think about it.
