Im Krug

Of course it was especially nice for us at Krug, because we were there with special friends © Nina Buesing Corvallo

While in Hamburg our friends took us to Krug on Paul-Roosen-Strasse in St. Pauli, a bar that also serves amuse-bouche/tapas based on German cuisine. The food was delicious, as was the wine and atmosphere. And it is right next to where The Beatles used to live :)
If you are in Hamburg I recommend it. German cuisine does not have a good reputation, but that is old news. New German cuisine has come a long way and each time I am home I eat better and better. Yum.

North

Around 10 PM (22:oo Uhr) in Hamburg in May © Nina Buesing Corvallo

Hamburg is far North and in the summer the day almost doesn't end. The light is amazing.
When I was in Berlin, Johan was telling me about Midsummer in Sweden and how good strawberries taste that have been exposed to sun 24 hours a day. I had never thought about it, but it sounds delicious.

Berliners (Postcards from Berlin)

Urban and Cozy: Berlin
© Nina Buesing Corvallo

My nephew currently is an exchange student in Berlin and so we decided to drive to Berlin to see him and, well, to say hello to Berlin. We had not been in a while and it was time to see Berlin again.
Berlin is fantastic: truly urban but also serene. Berlin is not considered beautiful in the conventional sense (like Paris for instance) but everyone concedes that it is an incredibly stimulating metropolis. There is just so much to see and the air is full of possibility. As many say, the way New York used to be.

Another person that loves Berlin and now lives in Berlin, is Sandra Juto. We had the pleasure of dining with Sandra and Johan while in Berlin (yes, we ate salad in Germany).
They are the loveliest of people and it was wonderful to discuss life and Berlin with them. And I hope they come to New York soon or that we can return to Berlin.

Travel & The Every Day

The reason I love to travel is because it inspires. Whether good or bad, new stimulates.
Now I am still thinking about my trip and am not sure where to start in writing about it.
I had not been home in Germany for this long in some time. And when I say long, I mean New York/American long: 9 days - including travel days. Most Europeans would consider that a short trip. However I made the most of it and stuffed tons of places and people into that extended week.
It is another thing I love about travel: I seize the day when I am on the road. That stamina I cannot bring to the quotidian or at least not for prolonged periods.
