NY Proud for Pride

This deserves some fireworks! ©Nina Buesing Corvallo

Last night N.Y. approved Same Sex Marriage. About freakin' time! And thanks for nothing Long Guyland. Seriously. Even Shaolin did better than you. Get on board, L.I. !

This will be one celebratory and amazing Pride!
Right on.

Great(er) New York

I have always dreamt of a country home - in Brooklyn. Preferably by the water. Kings County is just mellower.

Conversations

(via Kottke) Sven Schuhman and Johannes Bonke recently launched The Talks. This globetrotting Berlin (of course!) based duo has some sweet interviews for you to read free at: www.the-talks.com. I mean sweet in the conventional sense. These interviews feel like simple conversations and I mean this as a great compliment.
The Patty Smith and Mick Jagger interviews I particularly liked.

Gentle

My favorite building to look at in New York ©Nina Buesing Corvallo

Today New York was foggy and grey and mild.
I met the nicest people at KittyKind tonight. And I received excellent customer service from Verizon and at the Post Office. Not sure what was in the air today but everyone seemed gentle and kind today. Good stuff.

Charlie Mom

Greens in Chinatown ©Nina Buesing Corvallo

Chinese Food and New York is an old combo. But I guess one that is going out of style. Of course you can get plenty of great Chinese Food (House of Vegetarian, Vegetarian Dim Sum House, etc) in Chinatown and Flushing. But old skool Chinese food is not as prolific anymore. I still mourn the loss of Mama Buddah (Really? Another bank is what we needed?). Luckily there is still Charlie Mom! Lots of vegge options and they deliver fast. And along with your fortune cookie you always receive a tea bag, which I think is a nice touch. Find out more about Charlie Mom at: www.charliemom.com.

Best Friend

Opa & His Puppy © Buesing

I never knew my grandfather, but I came across the above picture of him, which I love. Boxers are one of my favorite dogs and how stylish is the very Hamburg nautical outfit my grandfather is sporting in this portrait?

I love animals and prefer them to many people -- also photographically. It is fascinating to see animals, particular companion animals in vintage photographs.
James Danziger recently had a post about pit bulls and I much enjoyed the photographic illustrations he provided. Find his post at: www.pictureyear.blogspot.com.

I don't think we have much information about the dog in the picture which is a shame. Who knows maybe it wasn't even my grandfather's. I remember Richard Avedon recalling how his family would borrow other people's dogs for family pictures :)
